Dam Safety Review

Tierra Group performed a Dam Safety Review (DSR) for Nyrstar’s tailings storage facility (TSF) located in Campo Morado (Guerrero, Mexico).  Tierra Group served as the Tailings Reviewer to ensure conformity with local regulations, the Nyrstar Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Standard, and to evaluate current and past facility performance related to dam safety. Tierra Group’s primary duty was to perform a Dam Safety Inspection, Documents Review, Operations Staff Interviews and Training, and a Dam Safety Report.  The Campo Morado zinc and lead mine typically operates at a throughput of 2,000 dry tonnes per day (tpd), and operates two TSFs: Naranjo Bajo and The Naranjo Alto B.

Tailings Storage Facility Review

Tierra Group performed a TSF review, evaluated alternative tailings storage options, including using geotubes to extend the life of a TSF nearing its ultimate capacity, and performed a forensic analysis to determine the cause for excessive deformation of an upstream tailings dam raise.
