Anglo American Quellaveco Mine | Perú

Project Highlights:

  • Geotechnical Investigation
  • Hydrology
  • Geologic Mapping
  • Slope Stability Analysis
  • Civil Design
  • Geotechnical
  • Seismic Hazard Study

Tierra Group supervised a geotechnical and hydrogeologic drilling investigation program at Anglo American’s Quellaveco Mine in the Moquegua Region of Peru.

Geotechnical Investigation

Tierra Group developed a geotechnical and hydrogeological research plan within and near the Quellaveco Pit footprint. This work will complement previous geotechnical studies and groundwater models, including current hydrogeological conditions involving geotechnical drilling, pumping, and observation well (open tube piezometers) installation.

Geotechnical Support

Tierra Group collected geomechanical field data (inspections, mappings, sampling, testing, among others) for the tunnels, plant-mine road, areas at the base of the dump, access to the tailings dam, truck shop slopes, bypass, and non-permanent accesses. The project included data processing, engineering analyses (such as slope stability and kinematic analysis), and geotechnical monitoring of areas of interest. In addition, geotechnical support was provided for tunnel construction, mine structure supervision in Area 2000, access road supervision, and general administration.

Buttress and Leach Pad Design

Tierra Group developed detailed engineering designs to construct a buttress and leach pad. The project included geological mapping, geotechnical laboratory tests, geophysical research, seismic hazard study, and slope stability.
